Ashley

So it seems that I have trouble getting myself to put my thoughts together for a long enough period of time to blog. Facebook of course is so much quicker. However on Facebook it is hard to really cover ones thoughts. So here I am after more than a month of no blogging at all getting around to blogging about one of our new favorite subjects: Ashley.
In October Jeremy took Ashley to Missouri so that they could share the experience of sitting in the rain watching her Huskers beat his Tigers. After that they went on to St Louis, he told us to look at Grad school for her and for him to propose in the arch. (We used to talk about that kind of thing when we took the kids there back in the day.) Anyway I guess the school thing will have to wait until another day because the brewery was a better draw but the proposal went off with only a small almost hitch. He had also arranged for several of their friends and her sister to meet them there for a celebration after the proposal. Isn't he a sweetie?! Good thing she didn't say no.
Anyway I briefly mentioned on my facebook that I was the proud mom of an engaged son but I have not taken the time to really put into words how I (we) feel. We are so very happy that he has found such a nice young woman to share his life with. I guess I can quit begrudging the "I have to go to Nebraska because I want to be a sports journalist and I wouldn't be caught dead at KU." One week of school passes: "I hate journalism, I'm not going to do that!" Yep I guess whatever out of state tuition one's parents must pay to get them a wonderful keeper girl like Ashley is worth it.
She is perfect for him. She has a mind of her own which will come in handy when he tries to always get his way. She can hold her own in a good sarcasm discussion which will help a lot when she is in our home. She is very smart and extremely hard working. She is caring and considerate of others. She loves to cook although after finding out his criterion for a wife was one that he could say "woman, get in the kitchen and bake me a pie" didn't think that would work. She spoils him rotten and is taking extremely good care of him with his broken leg. He will tell you much better than his mom would have. They even both took French.
Most importantly though: SHE LOVES COLLEGE FOOTBALL, NASCAR, AND HOCKEY. Probably all of those other sports things he likes too. I tell you a match made in heaven!
All of our children were home for the holidays and it was very special to us. I doubt they will know for many years how much it meant to us. Ashley and Robin even got initiated into the family Christmas play. Ashley got to play Mary since she and Jeremy are engaged.
They will marry in September - on his birthday. And we are looking forward to that.

Hooray! Congratulations to both!
Occasionally Captain Midnight will try the line, "Woman, get in the kitchen and make me some pie!" He knows the surefire retort: "Make y'own damn pie!" Ah, the sounds of a loving marriage. :)
something a parent so wants -- a good match for their offspring.
